This book was impossible to put down. The author wrote about an extraordinary man (Stan) in a manner that felt like he was reading the story to me himself. As other reviewers have mentioned, it is simply written. That is the charm of this book -- all ages can read this book and learn about a time in history that most of us can only imagine. I loved this book. I agree with the previous review, it is simply written, but a story that kept me turning the pages and leading me through the incredible true story about a man who survived a dark chapter in human history.
I lived next door to Mr. Kijowski as a kid in Abilene, KS & had no idea he had experienced so much in his lifetime. It's not just about the Holocaust, it's about his incredibly challenging journey thru a difficult life. I remember him as the quiet little Polish man who played funny sounding Polish music really loud but now I have a whole new respect for this wise, humble, heroic man. It's a great read that I highly recommend, I love the simple format & even my 10yr old daughter read it in a couple of hrs. Thank you Mr. Kijowski for sharing your story with the rest of the world!

Anna's second book is just as touching as her first. Describing Stan Kijowki's experiences, Anna's careful attention to detail makes this book a page turner.
This book is written in a format and style that is very teacher friendly. Each chapter is titled with a vocabulary word which sets the theme. Readability is appropriate for intermediate thru adolescent. What a wonderful, courageous story to teach the history of a difficult time.
This is a fabulous book about Stan Kijowski. He was in inspiration to all. Always had a smile on his face even after all he had been through.I'm so thankful that his stories were written down and shared with the world. Sadly Mr Kijowski passed away this past week but just a few weeks ago he was dancing and playing his violin at his 90th birthday. Be sure to read this book and learn about what an extraordinary man he was.
This book is about one of my family members. It's very simply written but the story is very compelling. It's great to save these stories before all of the Holocaust survivors are gone.
